Getting Addiction Recovery Through Honesty

Welcome to G.A.R.T.H. you have come to the right place if you are seeking love, healing, and understanding.

We are a Christ centered program that heals with the truth;

Here at G.A.R.T.H. we seek to support all that are interested in freedom, restoration, and full recovery from the bondage of addiction. We desire to participate in helping those that are hurting and in need of accountability and counsel. Our hearts reach out to those that struggle with the loss of control in their lives due to dependency. We are a brother, a sister, and a friend in the time of need. At G.A.R.T.H. we seek to lend an open ear and the wisdom of God to enable the captive to overcome. Our 12-step program requires the individual to examine him or herself in truth and through honesty accept the tools needed to begin the process of healing. So with this short mission statement we welcome you and look forward to assisting you in full recovery and restoration.

This 12-step program does not claim to be the only way, the perfect way, or the absolute way for you. It is merely a resource of additional training that encourages truth and honesty, healing, hope, and recovery with and emphasis on love. It is highly recommended that the individual get connected to a church body along with this program.

Welcome to G.A.R.T.H Addiction Recovery. We are grateful that you have made a decision in your life to live a new way. This will require honesty, willingness, and a total surrender of yourself to a greater power that is able to make a difference in your life. We pray that you are blessed as you participate, and that in these coming weeks change will become very noticable to you. Lord we pray that you will help us as we repent before of our past ways, we seek your forgiveness and ask for your acceptance of our apology. We pray today that this is the beginning of us drawing closer together again we are ready for you to take over and remove all the defects in our life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

WEEK/STEP ONE:

Recognizing our brokenness
We admitted we are broken over the effects of our separation from God – that our lives have become unmanageable without him.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18

"He knows our frame, He remembers that we are dust." Psalm 103:14

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 God has not forgotten, nor will He forget our frame. He promises that He will not give us more than we can bear, He also reminds us to cast our burdens upon Him because He knows how frail we are and how much we need Him. I want to suggest something to you though, sometimes we're the ones who forget what we are made of. Too often we think of ourselves much more higher than we ought, it is this pride that keeps us from turning to Him. When we forget that we are just dust, that is when life gets difficult and painful because we think we can handle it all alone. He formed us out of dust yet there are some out there that claim they are "Superman!" God knows what we can handle and what we can't, He is the one that formed us. Do we know what we can handle and what we can't? Stop trying to take on the whole world without His help. You can't do it!

Turn to Jesus He knows your frame and understands it all much better than you! Turn it over to Him and give Him the opportunity to be your God, your source of power!

Our first weeks lesson is meant to be an eye opener. Many people have had their eyes open to the truth to include such Biblical heroes like Paul. We need to understand that 1. "we all fall short" and 2. "we have to admit that we fall short" The readings below are to assist us in this, remember that Paul is being honest about who he is and he is reaching out for help.

Read Romans 7:14-25 What questions do you have after reading this?

Answer the following questions:

What was Paul's problem?
Did Paul admit his problem or did he hide it?
What was in Paul that caused him this trouble?
Did Paul do good or Evil?
Was his heart in love with God and the law of God?
Why is it necessary to love God's law?
Who helped Paul to evercome his addictions?

Read Romans 6:1-6 What questions do you have after reading this?

Answer the following questions:

After we receive help from Jesus by asking him into our heart are we to continue to sin?
What do you have to baptized into to be dead to sin?
Whe we receive Jesus do we walk in newness of life?
What happens to our old ways or old man?

Read Romans 8:1-17 What questions do you have after reading this?

Answer the following questions:

What is the difference between walking in the flesh and walking in the spirit?
In your opinion is or flesh or spirit?
When you walk in the spirit what are you free from?
If Jesus lives in us what happens to the addictions that compel our body?
What does this mean: "but if ye through the spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." ?
Should you feed your urges of addiction or should you feed your spirit?
How do you feed your spirit?

Read Galatians 5:16-26 What questions do you have after reading this?

Answer the following questions:

What are the works of the flesh?
What are the works of the spirit?
Is your addiction works of the flesh or the spirit?
What should lead you, thoughts of your addiction or thoughts of the spirit?

It is important for us to know our limits, where our abilities end and at what point should we surrender.

Jesus never expects us to be able to make it in life without His help, in fact He remembers always "that we are dust" from the earth.
